  • Pumpkin Science at FWS

    It's pumpkin season, and Danielle Maccaronio and Jessica Knoblich's FWS students had lots of fun with pumpkin investigations! The students described their pumpkins, scooped the seeds and pulp, and experimented to see if the pumpkins would sink or float in water.

  • Using Shadows to Learn About the Sun

    A flashlight is just a flashlight. That is, until it is used to help a first grader learn about light, shadow and the movement of the Sun across the sky. In Jessica Anderson’s first grade classroom at Buchanan-Verplanck, students were thrilled to become junior scientists, learning about the Sun and how shadows change during the course of the day as the Earth rotates.

    Lilly said the experience was nerve-wracking but exciting, while Aiden called the process “crazy.” However, both Buchanan-Verplanck fifth graders are thrilled to be named B-V Ambassadors for the 2021-22 school year and can’t wait to get started in their new roles!

    The high school’s ENL (English as a New Language) program recently held an information session for students and their families. Seated at tables outside the cafeteria, enjoying a meal prepared by Clare Carey and her staff, families listened as the ENL team described the program and the many resources that are available.

  • Supporting Troops with Words of Thanks and a Piece of Home

    Linda Cabral Marrero’s business classes at Hendrick Hudson High School wrote to U.S. soldiers stationed far from home. The letters were destined for care packages that are being assembled by the local organization United for the Troops. The students included an unusual item with each letter: a bag of dirt.   • District Launches Strategic Planning Process, Seeks Volunteers

    The Hendrick Hudson School District is poised to begin short- and long-term strategic planning. This is a unique opportunity for the school community to participate in developing a vision and strategic direction for the next five years. The district has partnered with Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES and consultant Education Elements to create its next Strategic Plan and is currently looking for volunteers from the school community to join the effort.
