Hendrick Hudson Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

George Wright, a HHHS senior, was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist.Hendrick Hudson High School senior George Wright was named a finalist for a National Merit Scholarship. As a finalist, he will be considered for one of the organization's 2024 scholarship awards, which will be announced later this school year.

Wright was one of approximately 16,000 students nationwide who were named semifinalists last September. Of the students who were chosen finalists, 7,140 students will be awarded Merit Scholarships, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Wright's consideration by the National Merit Scholarship Program was based primarily on his PSAT score. He earned a perfect score on the Math portion and scored 1480 out of a possible 1520 overall as a junior in the fall of 2022. Wright is also an active member of the student government and a three-sport athlete.

All told, Wright was one of over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools who entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT, which serves as an initial screen for entrants. Approximately $28 million of scholarships will be offered to select students when the winners are chosen this spring.

The NMSC, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1955. Nearly 375,000 students have earned the Merit Scholar title since it was first granted 69 years ago.
