New Superintendent Podcast: Megan Boyle
Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter chatted by phone with Library Media Specialist and Technology Coach Megan Boyle about online learning and supporting her colleagues as they adapt to new technology.
Boyle works closely with Library Classroom Specialist Nupur Pal. “Together, we have been providing open-ended questions for students to explore their creativity and think about ways to problem solve,” said Boyle. “We recently initiated Maker Mondays, where all students K-5 can respond to a fun, open-ended challenge, such as making a tower with materials found around their house.”
She explained that the students have been doing these types of challenges in school; Maker Mondays just transfers the process to their home environments. “It’s been fun to see the creativity, and the students can enjoy doing the projects with their families,” Boyle said.
As a Technology Coach, she is also helping teachers make the adjustment to online learning and figuring out the best way to reach their students and make their teaching relevant. “The teachers are so energetic and enthusiastic, and they want to translate that to their online instruction.”
She has seen students respond very well to this “new normal,” because they’ve used a lot of this technology in school all along. She and the teachers she’s working with just want to make things more accessible for their students and easier to do from home.
“I think, for teachers, the best part of this process is when we connect with our students,” Boyle said “It reminds you of what you are doing and why it’s important.”
