Elementary Schools Send off Fifth Graders with Parades, Drive-In Ceremonies
All three elementary schools found their own unique ways to celebrate their fifth grade students, as they wrapped up a challenging ending to the school year and prepared to move up to Blue Mountain Middle School.
Frank G. Lindsey’s Moving Up Ceremony was held on Monday, June 15 on the school’s back playground. The ceremony was drive-in style, with families arriving in decorated cars and honking with appreciation at comments by Principal Donna Torrisi. The fifth graders were presented with diplomas, congratulated and wished the very best of luck as they move on to BMMS.
On June 11, 2020, despite a threatening weather forecast, Buchanan-Verplanck staff members and some extra helpers from the community drove by every fifth-grade student’s home, honking and waving, to celebrate them moving up to middle school.
On June 15, Furnace Woods fifth graders were celebrated in front of the school at a drive-in style event, featuring speeches, songs and the calling of the students’ names. Following the ceremony, families drove around the circle to wave to teachers and staff.
